Raising Watsons

Hello and a happy Sunday to you.  Just wanted to give you an update on what we have been up to this past week and send you our curriculum for the week that is fast approaching.Last week was all about sensory play and working together.  We used all different types, textures, and shapes of blocks to build houses for people, animals, and dinosaurs.  We also really enjoyed playing with shaving cream during both circle time and outside in the large water table.  Using bubble wrap as a canvas for finger painting and transferring prints onto paper was another favorite.  On Friday we got out a large box and used it as a tunnel.  The kids had a great time taking turns and crawling through it.  Of course on Friday we also had fun playing in the water table-it was so warm that we could resist pouring the water on our heads.  Ms. Cami was so busy that she didn’t even have time to get pictures of that one!  During these activities, not only are we learning how to share space and materials, we are also developing small motor skills that will help us with our pre-writing and large motor skills that help us with balance, movement, and hand/eye and hand/foot coordination.After snack we have been playing our game “What friend is this?” I have photo cards of each child and we call out each child’s name as we look at them.  The kids love finding their own card and getting to hold it while we play.  I think we could play this game over and over again and never get tired of it.  It’s games like these that help us learn how to sit on the rug as a group and be able to take turns.  It is also helping us learn each others names and form stronger personal connections with our friends.

Tucker has been branching out this week and playing with new friends.  He has enjoyed spending time with Jaidyn, Gianna (from the Ladybug room), Maddox and Luke.  I love how he calls Luke-Luke Meller.  How funny that he calls him by his first and last name.  It’s great to see him spending time with so many of our friends.  Tucker loved painting over bubble wrap-I think he giggled the entire time we did it.  He likes looking at his picture that I hung in the room and often talks about it and how we made them.  Water play and shaving cream were other favorites.

We didn’t use the potty much this week.  Although Tucker continues to be able to tell me if he is wet or dry, he hasn’t wanted to try the potty-which is completely normal and is fine.  I will continue to offer the chance to try and we will continue working on it.
