At his third lesson Tucker was learning how to stop and balancing on one skate (very briefly).
The tot hockey classes start at age 4. His coach said she’s comfortable starting him early because he’s already surpassed the skills that kids usually learn in the beach babies class. Which basically is how to fall and get up. Looking at these videos now three weeks out it occurs to me he barely fell at all during his last practice.
Daddy is back in the sushi saddle! It’s been a few years but he’s bringing the tradition to the family.
Tucker helped Ben making the rolls.
Our meal featured Philadelphia roll, spicy tuna, regular tuna and mojo veggie roll. There was also a salad and miso soup.
I didn’t plan on giving Emilia a roll but she really didn’t want to be left out of the sushi fun.
After trying some sushi and working very hard to drink miso soup without getting the actual miso in his mouth, we let Tucker eat some pasta. It was his decision to eat it with his chopsticks.
Hello and happy summer! Hope you are having a great weekend. There was lots of fun had in the Monkey Room this week. We enjoyed working on a group mural, practicing our cutting skills, had a blast on water-play day, and really had a good time with our camping day on Friday. We made our own snack-using the ingredients that our kids brought to make our own customized trail mix, made our own binoculars, and had so much fun going through our “camping obstacle course”. The kids navigated a crawl through tent, two “bear” caves, climbed up and slid down the mountain, jumped over and crossed a bridge to navigate the raging river and landed at home base (tent). We probably each ran through the course 20 times! We also spent some time in the garden-replanting our lettuce and carrot crops and harvesting carrots and beans. We had a great time tasting them and are anxiously waiting to taste some squash and cucumber-and later this summer corn and watermelon!
This week will also be filled with activity. On Monday we will have a visit from a local dentist and learn about healthy brushing habits and taking care of our teeth. We will also be having another water play day on Thursday. Remember to send your child in their suit and with sun screen! Thursday night is a fund-raising night at Chili’s in Manhattan Beach. Come out and have some fun and support our school at the same time. Hope to see you there!!!!
Fourth of July is a pretty epic celebration in Hawthorne where fireworks are legal. Our street shuts down and lives it up. Last year we just stood by and witnessed but this year we invited some friends to the party.
Like Grammy, Bumpa, Hawk, Doc, Hank, Johnnie Mae, the Otto family, the Bolins, and the McSkeevys.
Okay, menu:
Watermelon triangles
Sweet watermelon salad with coconut dressing
Chips with salsa and asst’d dips
Roast pork sliders w/Asian slaw
Mom’s Rosedale pasta salad
Hot dogs
Brats
American flag white chocolate dipped strawberries and
Push pops
On our block was three bouncy houses, a small pool with water guns, two piñatas, a hot dog eating contest, fire breathing and fireworks galore!
But seriously, our neighbors are a little crazy and really like fireworks.
At the end of the night, Tucker was delirious. He gave Fourth of July all he had. He had a meltdown when it came to who could apply a bandage to his owie and was left in the bathroom. About ten minutes later everyone was looking for him and we found him bandage in hand passed out in the bathroom.
