Daddy is back in the sushi saddle! It’s been a few years but he’s bringing the tradition to the family.

Tucker helped Ben making the rolls.

Our meal featured Philadelphia roll, spicy tuna, regular tuna and mojo veggie roll. There was also a salad and miso soup.

I didn’t plan on giving Emilia a roll but she really didn’t want to be left out of the sushi fun.

After trying some sushi and working very hard to drink miso soup without getting the actual miso in his mouth, we let Tucker eat some pasta. It was his decision to eat it with his chopsticks.

Heather and Ben,

Hello and happy summer! Hope you are having a great weekend. There was lots of fun had in the Monkey Room this week. We enjoyed working on a group mural, practicing our cutting skills, had a blast on water-play day, and really had a good time with our camping day on Friday. We made our own snack-using the ingredients that our kids brought to make our own customized trail mix, made our own binoculars, and had so much fun going through our “camping obstacle course”. The kids navigated a crawl through tent, two “bear” caves, climbed up and slid down the mountain, jumped over and crossed a bridge to navigate the raging river and landed at home base (tent). We probably each ran through the course 20 times! We also spent some time in the garden-replanting our lettuce and carrot crops and harvesting carrots and beans. We had a great time tasting them and are anxiously waiting to taste some squash and cucumber-and later this summer corn and watermelon!

This week will also be filled with activity. On Monday we will have a visit from a local dentist and learn about healthy brushing habits and taking care of our teeth. We will also be having another water play day on Thursday. Remember to send your child in their suit and with sun screen! Thursday night is a fund-raising night at Chili’s in Manhattan Beach. Come out and have some fun and support our school at the same time. Hope to see you there!!!!

Have a great week,

Ms. Cami

Fourth of July is a pretty epic celebration in Hawthorne where fireworks are legal. Our street shuts down and lives it up. Last year we just stood by and witnessed but this year we invited some friends to the party.

Like Grammy, Bumpa, Hawk, Doc, Hank, Johnnie Mae, the Otto family, the Bolins, and the McSkeevys.

Okay, menu:
Watermelon triangles
Sweet watermelon salad with coconut dressing
Chips with salsa and asst’d dips
Roast pork sliders w/Asian slaw
Mom’s Rosedale pasta salad
Hot dogs
Brats
American flag white chocolate dipped strawberries and
Push pops

On our block was three bouncy houses, a small pool with water guns, two piñatas, a hot dog eating contest, fire breathing and fireworks galore!

But seriously, our neighbors are a little crazy and really like fireworks.

At the end of the night, Tucker was delirious. He gave Fourth of July all he had. He had a meltdown when it came to who could apply a bandage to his owie and was left in the bathroom. About ten minutes later everyone was looking for him and we found him bandage in hand passed out in the bathroom.

The Fourth

We are very lucky people.

Above and beyond that, we’re extremely fortunate to have such an invested Aunt Lindsay living with us here in California and often urging us to do great things.

The only reason this anniversary didn’t fly by like the others with Ben and I sheepishly noticing after the fact is that Tucker had a field trip. And we had to sign the form, it was about then that we released that fire station day was on our 9th anniversary. Considering Tucker’s obsession with Fire mans and fire trucks, neither one of us wanted to miss it. Realizing it was the same day as our wedding and we still hadn’t done a number of things we wanted to lately, Ben and I hatched a plan.

After a morning at the fire station, we would break for lunch and Zumba for mom. Then go to LACMA to see the Stanley Kubrick exhibit, see Star Trek “Into Darkness” and end it with a sushi dinner. Pretty perfect plan that does justice to our nine year marriage.

It almost went flawlessly but the museum was closed so we went to Amoeba Record shop. Which made a food day even better.

Huge thanks to Aunt Linds for picking up the kids from school.

This is Lily, Tucker’s best friend since the infant/toddler room.

There isn’t a single picture of him this day where his mouth is closed.  Just too excited!

Best anniversary

Happy Birthday to the sweetest little girl in our house. Yep, in all 2500 sq feet of it. Actually, she might be second to Aunt Lindsay who is technically pretty little.

So, Emilia has opinions. That’s okay, all toddlers do and she has come to realize that she has big competition. And she is not taking that lightly.

Anyone who met the actual sweetest, most agreeable baby on the planet might be a little surprised to meet toddler Emilia. She’s lightening fast, both in physical speed and in assessing a situation. She also makes her wishes very well known. And food, well, that’s something you need to see for yourself.

All the same, she’s our little angel even if she is staging a massive coup and will be running this household before she can talk.

Oh, did I mention she can talk? Watch out, Bub.

(For the record, Mom and Dad are fine with the coup as long as she keeps giving the biggest hugs and longest lasting hugs those little arms can give.)

Special thanks to Grandma Cupcake for the birthday crown and dress.   Good call, Grandma.

Happy Birthday Emilia

On Friday of last week, I saw an alert flash that it was the day of Tucker’s dentist appointment. Tucker had been pretty excited the past few weeks to go to the dentist, thanks mostly to the play school bus in the lobby of the dentist’s office. Mistakenly, I tell him that today is the day of the dentist appointment. A few hours into my day I would email the school that the appointment was actually Monday (the alarm was just an reminder) and I wouldn’t be picking up Tucker early from school. The Director of school left her desk and immediately informed Tucker that the dentist appointment was Monday because he had told EVERYONE at school how it was the day to go to the dentist.

Today was the big day and I am just so grateful that he wasn’t let down, or scared. Somehow, we may instill good dental habits in these kids. Thankfully, kids dentistry has come a really long way. Like, a REALLY long way. The entire place is setup for fun, with little kid potties, small chairs, your choice of movie playing during the cleaning (Cars 2, thank you), bus and books to play with in the lobby, SIX rolls of stickers and AND a grab bag of prizes. Did I mention your choice of flavored toothpaste: Bubble gum, Chocolate or watermelon? The dentist office now ranks just below Chuck E. Cheese and if you mention it you’ll hear in a long whine “I wanna go to the dentist, agaaaaaaainnnnnn”.

score.

Ben and Heather,

Hello and Happy Sunday.

I hope you had a great week and have been enjoying you weekend. All went well with my step-son’s graduation, so that is a big relief. Hopefully it is on to the Air Force for him in the fall. I am glad to be back home and can’t wait to see all the kiddos tomorrow.

I am sending pictures for the week of May 28-31st. Included is Tucker having his turn as fish feeder, making muffins and Parent Day (the picture of Ben and Tucker enjoying muffins is my favorite), exploring shells with mirrors and magnifying glasses, enjoying new toys gifted from the Snider family, sorting and graphing whales, and working on our giant thirteen foot “baby” whale that we will put up in our room this week.

I’m looking forward to continuing our study of the ocean this week with a closer look at sharks and using our aquatic theme to explore the math concepts of sorting and categorizing, counting, graphing, and shape recognition. We will be making shark puppets, geometric fish shapes, graphing gold fish, and sorting sea creatures.

Look for an email this week with more details about our trip to the fire station on Wednesday, June 19th at 9:30 am. Permission slips will go home on Friday. I am also looking for parent volunteers to walk with us over to the Main Street Station that day…Heather, I am looking in your general direction – since it was your suggestion .

Let me know if you can join us!

See you tomorrow,
Ms. Cami
