Texts from parents

Hockey starts at 12:15 and runs till 12:45. Afterwards Tucker plays the racing game 4 times. Then we watch hockey and eat a PBJ. Sometimes, after our lunch routine we go back and skate for all skate.

So, somewhere around 3pm I tell Tucker I need a break and need to use the ladies room. He didn’t want to come with me, he wants to skate.

Well, okay, he can stay on the ice and skate, I reason. He knows where the bathrooms are and I don’t have to be a helicopter parent. There’s three coaches he knows on the rink and a bunch of parents. So, okay.

The rule is he has to stay on the rink. No leaving. Tucker starts to argue that he’ll only come get me if he’s hungry and I stand firm, no leaving the ice. (He has run off on me more than once.). Tucker decides to leave with me.

Half way to the bathroom Tucker (gears still turning) asks – Mom, do you have to go poopie or pee pee? I have to pee. Oh, that’s not so bad!

And he runs off to the rink.

I wasn’t crazy about blogging this but Ben thought we’d want to remember later. And when it’s later I hope we still think it’s funny because this kid seriously takes the longest poops ever.

Priorities

On our block, Mason (age 5) lives next door and Matthew (age 6) lives two doors down on the other side. Whenever the boys spot each other they are like magnets across the lawn that tumble to the ground, run inside each other’s house or engage in some other foolery.

Yesterday, Matthew, Mason and Tucker come running into Tucker’s room where I’m putting away clothes. Mason is in a swimsuit. The other boys think this is a great idea and between the three of them they decide to have a pool party. Mason informs them his Dad is filling up the pool.

At this point, I poke my head outside and ask Mason’s Dad if he was planning to fill up the pool, because last I saw they were straightening the garage.  Turns out, he wasn’t informed of the pool party plans but about a minute later the three boys walk out of the house in bathing suits and it seems the decision has already been made.

Luckily, nobody else had plans. And it was a good day for a pool party, followed by a sword fight.

Mother’s Day card

The oldest and the youngest are the best of friends.

Good news everyone! FitBits count rocking a baby to sleep the same as walking. This getting in shape stuff is a piece of cake. Mmm, cake.

Yesterday, Tucker ice skated for two hours. Half an hour class and then another hour and a half of all skate. I was pretty surprised because, for one, I wasn’t with him as I had Emilia and she needed to nap on me (she does like to sleep in a chilly room). And two, he never wants to skate that long. But Tucker made a friend, Ivy, and skated with her and her dad the whole time.

I sheepishly thanked the father asked if he was bothering them (because I KNOW how annoying kids can be when their parents aren’t hovering). Ivys Dad reported that they were having a great time, he’s never seen Ivy skate so fast and I have a very friendly and nice little boy. Who, he added, can also skate very well.

You might think that’s the milestone or that yesterday was his first time playing hockey. But really, the moment that stuck in my mind today was first thing this morning when Tucker crawled into bed and said his legs were hurt.

No buddy, they’re not hurt. They’re sore. Good work, # 45.

Milestone

Short story – on Mondays we usually have baked salmon, turkey burgers (because Ben doesn’t like salmon) and brussel sprouts.  The kids eat a little of everything, starting with the salmon because the burgers are strategically not placed on their plates first.  Lately, Tucker has taken to squirting ketchup on his plate and dipping any and everything in it, including the salmon and brussel sprouts.  Ben has declared a household rule against dipping fish and vegetables in ketchup, but in my opinion, I’m just happy they’re eating salmon and brussel sprouts regardless of what it gets dipped in.

Most nights, Mondays included, Emilia eats all of her protein and very little vegetable.  Tucker eats all veggies and picks at the protein.  Tucker will generally be excused after he’s eaten enough of the protein on his plate and will head to the playroom.  Meme on the other hand will announce she’s done (to join Tucker in the playroom) and then take another fistful of food.  After she’s checked out the playroom she will come back and either ask for more food or sneak into Tucker’s seat and eat whatever meat is left on his plate.

That’s my girl.
